My first MEME. (Thanks Zoot!!!)
You will notice a theme here. Years ago I would have happily sat and watched a great slasher flick. I have grown out of that. I still do enjoy a nice thriller – but the slasher/gory/teenagers-running-in-the-woods type move just doesn’t interest me any more. So, enjoy my humble opinions on various horror movies. I hereby tag anyone who reads this and invite you to add any of your favorites to the list – if they aren’t already there!
Bold those you’ve seen.
Italicize movies you have started but couldn’t finish.
Add an asterisk* to those you have watched more than once.
Underline those on your To Watch list.
The Shining * : As a lifelong Stephen King fan, I watched this and while I liked the movie, I was disappointed that it was not exactly like the book. Honestly, I liked the made-for-TV edition much, much better.
The Exorcist : Saw this a long time ago.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre : I have never seen this. Apparently (according to Alan) it is one of the best. Maybe I should have underlined it.
The Silence of the Lambs * : Awesome movie. I love this for the psychological craziness it has.
JAWS * : This is one of those movies that scared the crap out of me as a kid and now I just watch it and laugh.
Halloween / A Nightmare on Elm Street / Friday The 13th : I know I saw all of these (even some of the sequels) but don’t remember them specifically. After the years pass, these movies kind of start to blur together. Michael Myers, Jason, Freddie – I get them confused. We were flipping through channels last night and one of them happened to be on. We watched for a few minutes, going back and forth on which one it was. Turned out to be Friday the 13th part VII.
Psycho : Great old movie.
Seven? : I am pretty sure I saw this – but don’t remember much about it.
Rosemary’s Baby : I read part of the book when I was about 14. Never saw the movie.
Poltergeist * : Fantastic movie – one of my all time favorites. Scary as hell and very quotable too. Great combination!!
The Thing : Never have seen this one.
The Evil Dead : Nor this one
Carrie * : Another Stephen King adaptation – a little better than the original Shining in it’s true-to-the-bookness. Not a fantastic movie – but still good.
Night of the Living Dead : Never seen
The Omen : Great movie – nothing like a freaky little kid to scare your pants off.
An American Werewolf in London * : Fantastic movie – one of my favorites because it combines the horror/werewolf story with some comedy. Great song too!
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer : Never heard of this . . might need to check it out on IMDB.
The Hitcher : Never seen
Lost Highway : Never seen
The Blair Witch Project * : I saw this and it was okay. Maybe I am just to cynical but it kind of made me giggle.
Pet Cemetery * : GREAT movie! This is an awesome Stephen King adoption, incorporating his twisted humor into the movie. Another freaky kid in this one – and he is one freaky-ass kid too. This is one I can watch over and over.
Saw : Never saw this one or any of those that followed the original, but I hear they are all great.
The Ring : I would like to see this one – because I have heard that it is fantastic in that freaky-mess-with-your-head kind of way.
Scream : I would like to see this as well, even though I know it is probably full of mindless humor. A little mindless humor every now and then is good for the soul . . or so I say!

I’m a big fan of “Pumpkinhead”, which is scary as hell! Also “The Thing”, “Dawn of the Dead” (2005), “Ringu”, “Resident Evil” and “Silent Hill” are all top quality spooky flicks. And I can’t believe you’ve NEVER seen “Night Of The Living Dead”. Are you serious??? And “Evil Dead” is alos a great horror film. Got a wicked sense of humor to it! In my personal opinion, modern horror films are NOT as much fun as the horror films from the 70’s. Today’s horror films show way too much. It takes the “scary” away and instead replaces it with gore. I don’t mind gore, if it’s done right. That’s also why I like “28 Days Later”. Very good combo of dread and scary. I don’t know if I would put “Lost Highway”, “Seven”, “Silence Of The Lambs”, or “Henry” on here. Not really horror films. They would robably be more in the drama category. But to each his/her own!
